blog imageBlogs started out as online journals but have evolved into fully functioning websites to the point you often cannot tell them apart. You still can create static blogs which are great for reflections, updates and archives but you also are able to set up a multi layered interactive site. A classroom blog can become a central hub for discussions with links to the student's blogs and a great way to keep your classroom parents up to date. If you make your lesson plans and handouts available on your blog students, parents and even your school administration could follow class lessons (which could substitute for turning in those weekly lesson plans to the principal). Adding videos and screencasts to your blog gives one more tool for students to use when trying understand new topics. Some teachers have started recording parts of their lessons or filming short mini lessons on difficult topics to help students study. Even easier would be to have students film short tutorial clips about class topics which could be archived to help future students. Blogs have become an online organizational tool that might actually help the teacher as much as the students.
